Ascent Trip Report

We summited on a two day climb via the Emmons/Winthrop route. The current route is actually mostly on the Winthrop glacier. Our team, a rope of four and a rope of three, left Camp Sherman at 1:30am heading southwest up the rib of the Winthrop. After negotiating a series of crevasses we found a very direct line on the upper mountain and arrived on the summit with clear skies and unlimited visibility. We descended with only a slight variation in route to avoid one icy switchback with a few crevasse crossings and a sketch snow bridge. We arrived back at camp at 1:30pm, resulting in a 12 hr round trip time from camp. On the way out we enjoyed losing thousands of feet in just a few minutes by glissading down the Inter Glacier much more than the final three miles of trail back to the car.
