Ascent Trip Report

We drove to the TH on our way to check out Campobello International Park near the coast. We used the always excellent directions from Ben L. But this will update his comments. Since he did this CHP, the roadways have been regraded and are in excellent shape. The gated road off of SR 9 is wonderful and flat for an unpaved Maine road (can drive it 40 mph) and the gate is open with basic warning signs about respecting private property but allowing access. When you turn off at 2 miles to the access road to Pleasant Mtn it is also in great shape now. The deep troughs described were gone and we were able to cruise up the mountain easily 30-35 mph and the parking area at the end is wide and will accomodate several cars and an easy turn around.

The trail up the mountain (Ben calls a woods road) is just that - an old jeep trail that is no longer used or maintained and heavily overgrown in places but there are a lot of flags to follow. The woods are very beautiful hard woods and you can see through them easily. Near the summit it is still a buswhack but you can follow the foot and herd paths through the thick fern patches to the ridge line. Once you hit the ridge you have to work it back to the summit so make sure you know where you left the bushwhack to the ridge, there is no roadway or trail running parrallel to the ridge so if you miss your exit you may miss the woods road as it goes straight up and perpedicular to the ridge.

There are no views. The sign on the peak is still there marking the HP with a wooden sign. We busted up it as it was near dark and wanted to get down without incident. Left at 6:62PM found summit at 7:15 PM and trail jogged down by 7:30PM. The woods were getting very dark as we found the car and left.
