Ascent Trip Report

Off FR, shortly after the intersection 597 with FR 134, I took a track south. A short ways in there's a Forest Service "no ATV's" sign. So I parked my Jeep (not quite an all terrain vehicle) about 150 yards in. One of my maps shows a track heading up to a trail connecting Elephant Rock with Sawmill Mountain. I hoped this was it. It wasn't. After about 0.4 mi. the track hits a wide stream bed. I followed this uphill to a nearly sheer rock face and narrow nearly vertical chute for the stream. I tried bushwhacking up the very steep hill just to the left of the chute, but gave up after a few minutes. I'll come back anther day and look for a better route.
