Ascent Trip Report

This was our second day in Central Idaho, we did White Mountain West the previous day. After lunch at Barstrom's in Salmon we drove down the east side of the Lemhi Range and set up camp at 8200 feet. The drive up to the TH was worse than expected, since I decided to climb the last rutted hill in my suzuki sidekick.

We set out at 4am local time and were on top a few short hours later. Nothing too surprising with the east ridge route, a few short bands of rock to climb, and the ridge never gets too narrow. This was a fun scramble, and only my third time above 12k feet. Only one other person on the mountain this day besides our party, a man and his golden retriever (which summited although I saw him carrying the dog on his back when downclimbing the last cliff). It amazes me the mountains people manage to get there dogs up and down.

This marks my completion of the three Idaho ultra-proms. Not a lofty or overly difficult goal, but one I had been eyeing since failing to do it five years earlier in one grand weekend trip. Next up, the full Idaho P2K list. 16 down 81 to go...
