Ascent Trip Report

Hiked with 6 total in party from Meetup I organized. Trailhead description was thought to be at the Easton/Franconia townline (for westerly approach via Mt. Kinsman Trail). The actual trailhead is a short distance South on 116 in Easton. It appears the trailhead was relocated from the old townline trailhead. Old trailhead was parking on 116. New trailhead is a lot.

Route was the Mt. Kinsman Trail to the Kinsman Ridge Trail to North Kinsman to South Kinsman, back to North Kinsman, and descend on the Mt. Kinsman Trail.

Forecast was questionable as of the morning with 50% chance of precipitation and thundershowers possible after noon. The drive up to the trailhead was filled with rain from southern NH up to Lincoln or so before it stopped raining. We set foot on trail at 10:00 and hiked up the Mt. Kinsman Trail. Hike up was uneventful and we soon turned onto the Kinsman Ridge Trail. Soon after, it started to rain and was obviously more noticable when no tree cover was present. We summited North Kinsman and stopped on the trail for lunch while standing and trying to get tree cover to stay out of rain. After lunch, we continued south on the Kinsman Ridge Trail to South Kinsman. The rain stopped by this point. We turned around and returned to trailhead in reverse. The sun was shining brightly when we re-summited North Kinsman as well as when we got back to the trailhead.

Trails were in decent condition but was muddy and slippery due to the rain.
