Ascent Trip Report

With a forecast for thunderstorms from midday, we chose the ascent the Berchtesgadener Hochthron as a safe option. However, before the weather broke it was hot and uncomfortably humid and we sweated a lot on the ascent. The route was well-maintained, well-signposted, and the views fantastic back to Hochkönig, Birnhorn, Stadelhorn, Grosses Ochsenhorn, and especially Watzmann which immediately jumped into a high spot on my must-do list. We stopped for lunch with a beer a the excellent hut near the summit, and the descent was accomplished well before the storm hit. Unfortunately when it hit we were trying to squeeze in a second hill of the day (the nearby Karkopf) and we got totally drenched, but that´s another story..
