Ascent Trip Report

The Gavilan Trail climbs slowly but steadily at first until a stream crossing about 0.7 mi. out and then gets quite a bit steeper. It's about 1.9 mi.to a meadow at 10,400. The last 0.6 mi. through the meadow and up to the trail junction is steeper yet with about 750 feet elevation gain. From the trail junction at the saddle (just below 11,200) there's another short steep section up to around 11,600. The trail winds around at roughly that elevation for about a half mile until you come around a bend about a 1/4 mi. from the peak at roughly 11,700. Beautiful views all along the ridgeline.
