The trail map that I received at the local Information Office in Ferme-Neuve refers to this mountain as Montagne du Diable, It gives 4 peaks, Sommet du Diable (the north peak highest at 783M), Sommet Sud (740M), Sommet Belzebuth (749M) and Sommet du Garde-Feu (756M).
NO MENTION WHATSOVER OF MONT SIR WILFRED, in fact I got the impression from the tourist office attendant that they don't use the name Mont Sir Wilfred Laurier.
From the intersection of Hwy 309/Montee Leblanc, as you enter the village of Ferme-Neuve from the south, we drove west on Montee Leblanc (changes names to Baskatong) for 10.7km to Chemin Walker on the left. Parked here, this was my TH (1.2km before we passed the main TH at the Lac de la Montagne).
I walked the rough gravel (4x4) Walker Road 3km west to a main junction with a kiosk, where I turned left and followed/climbed the rough gravel Service Road about 6km directly to the summit. The road is well used, I was passed by 2 service trucks and 4 ATV's.
The north-south summit ridge has 3 Communication Towers, 300 meters separate the north & south Towers, the middle Tower is in a small col.
The HP (Sir Wilfred or Diable) is at the north Tower ..... I chose the rock outcrop 25 meters south of the Tower, GPS 46.68995,-75.59497. The small rock beside the Tower could be higher.
You are rewarded with an outstanding 360 degree panorama.
2 impressed ATVers joined me for a lunch break, "You actually walked up here?".
We drove hwy 117 north to the Reserve Faunique La Verendrye on the way to the La Vallee-de-La Gatineau CoHP.
