Ascent Trip Report

A dirt road and a bushwack ...... 7km, 2h15 hours RT for both Areas.

This our first day of a week-long CoHPing trip to northwestern Quebec.

PB gives only one area for this County, however the google maps show 2 - 1350' (50' closed contour) and therefore 2 Candidate High Point Areas, so I went to both in the order listed below.

From Hull we drove north on hwy 5/105 about 95km to Gracefield, then took a left on the paved Chemin du Lac Cayamont and drove 18.7km left on the paved Petit Cayamont in the small community of Cayamont, 2km right on Chemin de l'Aigle (becomes gravel at 250M), 5.5km stayed left at fork, 3km arrived at a fork and parked the van, this was my TH (most of this last road was very rough for my van). The road to the right is the route (I would find out that I could have driven to the next fork).

I walked the gravel road northwesterly 1.5km to a fork (GPS 46.16093,-76.35857) and stayed left on the lesser road, .8km just past the height-of-land I started my bushwack (GPS 46.15647,-76.36560).

AREA 2 (EASTERN AREA)
I bushwacked/climbed south aiming for the col between Area 1 & 2 but always favoring left. I arrived right-on Area 2 obvious wooded summit ..... a large erratic rock marks the spot, GPS 46.15044,-76.36290. I added a few stones to the erratic rock and orange tape to a near-by tree. This climb was a moderate 1km bushwack in fairly open deciduous woods, some blowdown to contend-with.

AREA 1 (WESTERN AREA AS PER PB)
From Area 2 I bushwacked westerly about .4km to the wooded obvious summit of Area 1 ....... the small/open/fern-covered summit has remnants of old tower foundations and a 2"x2"x 15' long aluminum angle laying against a tree, GPS 46.15038,-76.36687.
I descended north 1km to the start of the bushwack, the woods all as noted above, not at all difficult.

The total bushwack for both areas was 2.4km, 470' ascent.

We drove north to Ferme-Neuve and found a campsite at the municipal Campground.
