Ascent Trip ReportWe rode to the end of Christnovich Road (which may turn to "Z" after County Line Road). There was a closed gate there, so we began walking towards the house off the south side of the road. A man came from around the back of his house and greeted us. He was painting at the time. He said we could go to the highpoint and that we must look for wildlife along our hike. He claims that bears and wolves both call his land home at some point of the year.
Not twenty feet from our bikes, a deer jumped out of the bushes and crossed the road in front of us. The claim for the wildlife surely was met. From here we passed the gate and followed the two track road until it split north and southeast. We went southeast through vegitation that was one to two feet high along an old logging road. The man had told us to take the second logging road that branched off to the south, and it was clear where that was. On our approach to the turn we startled some grouse, about eight of them, who flew off in a staggered pattern as we drew closer. On the second southbound logging road we traveled approximately .15 miles until we found a boulder about two feet tall ten feet east of the road. We walked in all directions through short brush and over tiny knots, but the boulder appeared to be the high spot. It might be a glacial erratic. There were no views but the forest from the top. We returned the way we came up, but this time noticed the flags outside the house north of the end of the two track road. When we got back we found that the flags are the US and Polish flags which are to remember the man's parents who built that house when they settled here. He was quite proud of his land and his heritage.
