Ascent of Coosa Bald on 2008-03-15
|Date:||Saturday, March 15, 2008|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||4280 ft / 1304 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThis was a repeat trip due to the fact that on a previous hike, I failed to reach the true summit. This, of course, was before I became obsessed with peak bagging. The trail from Wolfpen Gap is a gradual climb that has obviously changed routes recently. You can see where the newly dug trail bears to the right and the old blazed trail continues straight uphill. It looks like the old trail would have been much steeper and more direct.
At the summit there is a nice rock slab that gives you a bit of a view to the West. However, the bald ain't so bald anymore. Like most, the summit now has a fine canopy. I watched storm clouds moving towards me from the west and in no time I was in white out conditions with rain and lightning to accompany me on my hike back down.
