Ascent Trip Report

Did this trip with an old friend, Andy. We camped overnight at approx 13,000 ft near Devil's Playground. After setting up camp we endured through some severe thunderstorms in the area. Lightning was striking pretty regularly and was somewhat intimidating. The storms passed through after a couple hours but dropped the temperature pretty significantly for what turned out to be a chilly night, as should be expected at 13,000 ft. We made it to the top the next day, visited the gift shop, then hitch-hiked our way down the 19-mile long Pikes Peak Highway, grabbing a ride in the back of a pickup truck. Living a mile away from the bottom of the highway has its advantages!
