Ascent Trip Report12 ADK Peak! Following our summit of Gothics we determined it would be worthwhile to summit Armstrong prior to our descent since we had not climbed Armstrong when we climbed Upper and Lower Wolfjaws. The trail sign in the col between Gothics and Armstrong indicates Armstrong is just .45 miles away. I had been debating whether or not to climb another peak after Gothics since we had already climbed three (Sawteeth, Pyramid Peak and Gothics). The site of a trail sign telling me another peak and summit was only .45 miles away had me telling my husband Scott "I'll see you at the summit!". The summit of Armstrong was smaller in comparison to Gothics and Pyramid Peak which we had just climbed, and about the same size, or a little larger than Sawteeth which we had climbed even earlier in the day. The summit does not provide 360 degree views, so following a summit of Gothics and Pyramid Peak, Armstrong can seem "less than". However the views from Armstrong are still worthwhile. Once we had summited we took some time to take some photos, take in the views, chat with the 4 hikers from PA who had also followed us over, and then begin our descent. Our return path felt long and tiring after climbing 3 (technically 4) peaks. Near the end we were rewarded with a pass by Beaver Meadow Falls where we rested for a while, taking in the beauty and peace of the falls. Our trek down Lake Road felt long and tiring, much more challenging than it had several hours prior when we bagan. The site of our car at the end of the day was a welcome site.
Highlights: Beaver Meadow Falls, rock on ledge of summit for sitting quietly with Scott, ladders on descent, long walk down Lake Road.
