Ascent Trip ReportDennis P. and I hiked the road from the first locked gate. This gate is very aggressively signed including a sign that says "If you can read this, you're in range". After a quarter of a mile, you come to a second locked gate that has a sign saying "Do Not Enter" for unauthorized motor vehicles. This is at the road fork shown on the topo. We climbed over and continued. Saw no one until we got to the lookout, which was womanned, and Lois welcomed us and told us to come up for the view.
After she pointed out the many visible peaks on this gorgeous day, she told us the proper pronunciation for Aeneas: EE-nee-us. We asked her about the signage and locked gates and she told us that the road is public and that the person who owns the land it passes through, does not really have the right to refuse passage. How far you want to push it with this individual is your judgement call.
