Ascent Trip Report4.6 miles round trip, great weather for a hike, amazing views from the fire tower, well worth the afternoon but:
1) Be advised that as of late June 2012, the Hudson River footbridge is closed due to hurricane damage, and hikers must ford the 50 foot-wide river. Prepare to get your boots a little wet. 2) In case the Hudson didn't get you wet enough: Be advised that as of late June 2012, the causeway over Jimmy Lake is partially damaged and the water level is well above average. Parts of the causeway are barely floating above water and are connected by rope. As soon as you step on several portions of the causeway, best case scenario: you're going to get soaked up to your knees. Worst case: you'll lose your balance and fall right into the lake. I had hiking poles and considered myself lucky to only have gotten soaked up to my knees.
