Ascent Trip ReportGreat weather. Warm but plenty of tree cover to keep it cooler. A little buggy and some wet spots. Hiked 10 miles round trip. Parked at Ferncroft parking area and was accompanied by a friend's small dog. Took Dicey's Mill trail (walk down Ferncroft, onto private property-hiker's welcome, right before barn, take left which leads you to the trail). While resting at Rollins Trail and Dicey's Mill trail junction, met hiker who had just come from White Face. He was heading up to peak Passaconaway. Passed a group of backpackers who had camped on a knoll. I didn't go see the knoll, but he said it's right on the left on a spur trail just as you start the ascent up Passaconaway. Passed the firt hiker who was descending from Passaconaway as I was summitting. Also passed a female hiker on the descent about a mile in from the trail head on my descent. Passaconaway has little views and I didn't stay on summit too long. Weather was sunny at summit but was mixed clouds on the way down. First 4000 footer solo (I'm not counting the dog as "company" for this stat!) 10.0 miles in 4:30. 2.22 MPH. Pretty good pace. First major hike of year and I felt out of shape.
