Ascent Trip Report

I accessed Buckhorn from I-5 in Wolf Creek. Find Speaker Road at the intersection of the Frontage Road, the Wolf Creek I-5 Exit Southbound, and the Northbound I-5 entrance. Zero your odometer and go east on Speaker Road. At 4.2 miles the pavement ends, at 4.4 miles turn left on BLM 33-5-10.3, at 7.2 miles go straight, at 7.9 miles turn left, at 8.4 miles take the left fork onto BLM 33-5-5.1, and at 9.1 miles reach the end of the road. Park at elevation 3,300 ft. Walk thru the back of the turnaround at road end and then up the slope to the summit. The slope has been thinned and there is some old growth that is pretty. No views.
