Ascent Trip ReportToday was a great day to hike Chocorua. The skies were mostly blue and the temperture was perfect at around 40 degrees F. I was expecting to break trail because we had just gotten some snow the day before, but there were many people who had already used the trail. We started our hike at about 9:20 AM. There were seven of us in the group. Michael and I drove up together and met our group at the Champney Falls parking lot. The climb up was a little slow but it was a nice day to take our time up to the summit. There were a lot of people hiking and ice climbing on this trail. Once we got up to the exposed ledge, it was extremely windy. Several times on the ledges we were fighting the strong gusts of wind. As a matter of fact, Michael got to use his new anemometer to measure wind speed. His highest reading was 46/miles per hour. Five in our group reached the summit and boy was it worth the trip. I know why everyone is awed by the views on Chocorua. It has a 360 degree view and despite the wind it was a beautiful clear day.
Our descent was fun too. We had to slide on our butts a couple of times on the trail. We were like little kids sledding on a hill after a snow storm. I definitely would like to return to Chocorua in the summer.
