Ascent Trip Report

From the north, I climbed Passaconaway using the Oliverian Brook Trail, the Passaconaway Cutoff, the Square Ledge Trail and the Walden Trail. I descended along the Dicey's Mill Trail and took the Rollins Trail south over the Whiteface summit, turning around once I reached the Whiteface Ledges. I backtracked along the Rollins Trail, and took the 0.2 mile East Loop (avoiding the Passaconaway summit) to the Square Ledge Trail. I then followed the Walden Trail southeast over Nanomocomuck (an unofficially-named peak), turning around once I reached the 3140' Wonalancet Hedgehog peak. On my way back, I did a side trip south along the Wonalancet Range Trail, turning around once I reached Mt. Hibbard (which doesn't seem like a real summit, but has a decent view west). Once back at the Walden Trail, I retraced my steps back over Nanomocomuck (very steep there), and took the Square Ledge Trail over Square Ledge, and turned onto the Square Ledge Branch Trail while descending Square Ledge. After that, I turned left onto the Oliverian Brook Trail, which took me due north and back to the trailhead on the Kancamagus Highway. The total distance was about 20 miles.

There is a small cairn at the viewless true summit of Whiteface, but of course there are superb views from the ledges a little farther south.
