Ascent Trip ReportWe used "Castlereagh's" trip report on summitpost at http://www.summitpost.org/cherry-creek-benchmark/790155. We camped at the only flattish spot near spot elevation 2018 meters. The parking area on the left was marked with an orange flag at almost exactly 1.0 miles past the old gate; if you continue past the parking you'll find the large rock blocking the road just around the corner.
The hike is straightforward - follow the road until it fades and climbs left, then go through brush to the first (unmapped) cabin ruin at just below 2400 meters, then the narrow canyon section to the mapped ruin. From here the canyon bottom is trail-like for a while, then you get into a section of dead fall, and finally the last 600 feet of gain to the saddle is steep and fairly open. The ridge walk to the summit is easy open woods from the saddle. The register is in a cairn just beyond the surveying tripod that stands over the bench mark.
