Ascent Trip ReportWe climbed this from the south, the day after our Schwarzhorn ascent
Our starting point was Silum, 1469m: roadside parking at N47.13218 E9.55328, 1461m, just before the road end, with fine views of Gamsberg across the Rhine valley far below.
An alternative trailhead was noted a short way further north: follow sign for Gaflei.
Good path with cables and a steps in places, generally following trail signs for Drei Schwester: Kuhgrat itself although the highest summit is never mentioned.
From the trailhead walk the road to its end, past a gasthaus, then sharp L onto a wide track leading north. At N47.13985 E9.54805 1604m, in a meadow, at a sharp R bend we take a small grassy path which heads N and climbs gently. In time the terrain becomes steep and rocky with some exposed passages (YDS2+) and a few descents. At N47.15106 E9.55293 1848m we cross to the R (E) side of the ridge and turn L (downhill) at a sign and ascend gradually through pines. It zigzags back L onto the ridge.
At N47.16293 E9.55861 1995m we keep R and are soon at the summit, N47.16656 E9.56088, 2115m, marked with a cross with a Gipfelbuch (register). The view north is very impressive, with a trail winding across the face of a steep summit, and Drei Schwester visible beyond through intermittent cloud.
We're up in 2h45 and descend in 1h45. We meet a few folk on the way up and at the summit; we meet more on our way down including a party of about 30 young folk. After lunch we head for our next peak, Schesaplana.
