Ascent Trip Report

This one has frustrated me several times. I've tried from the west unsuccessfully, getting turned around where what used to be a trial is totally overgrown and blocked by fallen trees.This time I tried access via the Capulin Trail off Fr10 (Shadow Mountain Road) . From my parking near the trail head my GPS put the distance to the peak at 1.87 mi. There are a bevy of old forest roads and logging tracks in this area and I followed them as they wound around a series of steep ridges sometimes vaguely in the right direction. But after walking 3.75 mi. I was still 0.85 mi. away with the route winding up another canyon before heading back towards the peak. This was my swcond ascent of the day and I was getting tired, so I turned around. The alternative, a more or less straight bushwhack, would involve going up and down several densely overgrown multiple ridges. I'll try again. Sometimes a small but inaccessible peak can be more of a challenge than higher and more sgnificant ones.
