Ascent Trip ReportI took the Calamity Brook trail to Flowed lands, then the Opalescent River trail to Uphill Brook. At that point I wasn't quite sure what to do and I bushwacked north along what I thought was the abandoned twin brook trail, but I got lost and lost my compass. Using the sun for guidance, I headed back north to get out and luckily soon came out on a herd path that seemed to be heading to the mountain, so I followed it. Sure enough, it soon went up a steep cliff and then down and up a little to the true summit. Going back down, I wasn't sure where this herd path would lead but it took me down to the Mount Redfield herd path next to Uphill Brook, so I got out fine. For those planning on climbing Cliff Mountain, I can tell you now that this is how to do it: Go up the Redfield herd path until you get to a cairn with a rusty metal can in it. There, turn right onto another herd path that will take you through some muddy sections, then up a cliff, then down a little and up a little to the true summit. I was lucky that the weather was nice for me on this hike because there was a chance of afternoon thunderstorms.
