Ascent Trip Report

Ran up the short trail from Flint Gap. Interesting that this peak is shown in the database but the USGS calls the next peak over Flint Knob. But that peak does not list a USGS elevation and this one does. I would be tempted to call this one thus, Flint Knob East Peak.

The trail was great for running. Not too steep and tight so fun to dodge around the trees. No views at top but the vegetation clears out some and it has a nice peak feel. Tagged the big pine tree and ran back chasing up more grouse. Flushed up 3 Rough Grouse on the entire trip of over 8 miles and around 2500 feet for the day (after we re-aquired Rabun Bald for the second time that morning). The trail over this peak goes all the way to Alex Mountain although the USGS does not show that. I did not have time to bag it also as we had planned to let Karen bag the state HP today as well so we had to get back.

The flame azaleas (I think that is what they are called - the ones that are orange or red orange- we beautiful and in full bloom in constrast to the small while Rhododendrons). Some sort of honeysuckle was in bloom too and was very fragrant.

I ran up in around 4-5 minutes and ran down it in 3 minutes about quarter of a mile each way.
