Ascent Trip ReportA beautiful day at Lake Nantahala, NC - Mike, Louis, and I set out to take in the fresh air at the top of Wayah Bald. We got started around 9AM and took the 4.6 mi trail from the road on the gap between Siler Bald. It was a cool day - long sleeves required. Fairly easy hike, densely forested, so not much to look at. The orange azeleas were beginning to bloom. We made it to the summit in 1.5 hrs. The view from the summit is incredible - we were fortunate that it was a clear day. The peak is surrounded in mountains, with a clear view of the Smokies. I was able to clearly see Clingman's Dome (co-incidentally, I had summitted it 5 years ago from this date!).
The lookout tower has a pictoral of the mountains in view, identifying their names. There's also a drive-up road to access the lookout tower. Amazing view, and it feels great to bag another peak.
