Ascent Trip Report

Gudi and I started up the Blue Trail on a gorgeous morning at 8:40am. The lower portion of the Blue Trail is a steady steep, kind of a calf burner. The “trail” is more like a jeep trail, very wide. It must have been used for some other reason other than just a hiking trail up the mountain.
At 9:20am we reached the junction of the “upper spring” trail, at the junction the blue trail goes to the right and turns into more of a hiking trail, but still nice going. The last 100 meters before the junction with the Lookout Rock trail, the trail was very icy and was a bit tough to get through. Just passed this junction the trail pops out at a antenna tower, the sign to the summit points to the right, a few meters further, the next sign says to go to the left! You end up hiking the last bit to the top on the access road to this tower.
Arrived at the summit at 10:00 am and much to my surprise and disappointment, the old hotel is gone! I remember when we were kids, my Dad would drive us up the road and the hotel was there to meet us. About 10 yrs ago I drove my family up the road to find the hotel all boarded up and somewhat run down. Well, it does look they are going to rebuild some sort of building where the hotel once was and not just a bunch of towers.
Enjoyed great views in all directions and then headed off the summit at around 10:10.
Took a side trip to Lookout Rock and was rewarded with great views into the valley. Headed back down the trail and met up with Gudi just before the Upper Spring trail. Out of curiosity I wanted to see the upper spring. Just a couple hundred meters down the trail, the ‘spring’, is a 5” white pvc pipe spewing out nice fresh water! Not exactly what I was expecting. Gudi and I headed back to the car and along the way we met several groups heading up the mountain. It was indeed a great day for a hike! We got to the car 12:05.
