Ascent Trip Report

Nice day for a hike. Tecumseh trail starts out in the woods along the creek with ICE COLD water. Very nice hike thru the dense forest with lots of moss. As you approach the top the forest turns mostly to Balsam firs with that great scent of christmas. The trails is well maintained and in places has rock stairs. I really appreciate all the hard work it takes to get those in place!
We kept a quite good pace with frequent stops for the girls to rest.
At the top, which is still in the forest there is a bit of a view in several directions as the trees are short and you can see thru them but no sweeping views. The valley would be incredible in the fall since most of the trees are birches and maples with just a few stands of pines so the colors must be spectacular.
The black flies are out so we didn't spend too much time at the top.
Took the Sosman trail down to the ski trails at Waterville Valley which naturally has a lot of sweeping views of mountains, the valley and the resort town at the bottom. We mostly followed the dirt road as the grass was a bit high in most of the trails. Would have been a bit nicer and cooler to return down the Tecumseh trail but we wanted to see what else the mtn had to offer. We agreed to ski waterville this winter as it seems like a great place with nice views though the trails are pretty steep! Near the bottom there was still a huge patch of SNOW! In late May with low 80 temps!!!
Got back to the car in ~5hrs total which is what we figured for the 5mi hike.
Then down to Town Center shopping area in the valley for Ice Cream (and the bathroom - none of the ski area ones are open in summer)
