Ascent Trip Report

The hardest part of this ascent was the drive in from the highway. From NM 434 I took FR76 west (signed San Antonio Church Rd. at the highway, but there's a FR76 sign shortly thereafter). The first stretch, a little more than a mile to the national forest boundary, is fine. Thereafter it's rocky, rutted and slow. At about 5 1/2 miles from the forest boundary I took FR153 another 2.4 miles to a wide spot in the road near an abandoned logging track heading upward. The slightly over 9 mi. from the highway took me about an hour.

My GPS put the distance from my parking spot to the hp coordinates at 0.5 mi. On the way up I used pieces of the many abandoned logging tracks, cutting down on the bushwhack over fallen trees but lengthening the hike. On the way down i bushwhacked more or less on my GPS bearing. The top is mostly wooded but offers some views and there are excellent views on the way up. A cairn contained a jar with a sigh-in log that included several names I recognize from Peakbagger and LOJ.
