Ascent of Sugarloaf Mountain in 2010
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||4240 ft / 1292 m|
Ascent Trip ReportGreat hike, never really felt strenuous but got us up to the second highest point in Maine! We explored around the top and then headed back down after lunch. The only downer was seeing a dad and his two little girls at the top, having ridden the ski lift up.
Warning: At least one of the logging bridges was rotted out at the time of the hike and made for sketchy passing.
UPDATE May 2012: The road is still not being actively used for logging, and within a quarter mile of Rt 27 there's a washout of small a culvert. Hurricane Irene's damage has not been fixed. Clearly others have used the road to get closer to the AT crossing, but it's certainly a pass-at-your-own-risk.
