Ascent Trip ReportA short/moderate dirt road climb from Bournedale Road ...... 600 yards, 20 minute RT.
I arrived in the area last night in order to join Adam Helman's group visit to Pine Hill, today's rendezvous time at Camp Edwards' Main Entrance is 15h00 hours so I had all morning to kill.
I came to this summit with the idea of climbing the Fire Tower for a panorama view of this beautiful area ...... it was not to be, a small Communication Tower has been erected next to the Fire Tower and all is fenced-in with a locked gate, signed "No Access", west of this installation is another tall Communication Tower.
The summit area is mostly wooded with no views, an opening to the south (at 30 yards) overlooks a huge sand quarry. I walked west along the edge of the quarry over 2 bumps. The rough-looking sand quarry, the numerous Electric Transmission Towers, 2 Wind Turbines, bridges and roads makes for a very polluted landscape ...... so much for my beautiful view.
This would not be the case for my next visit, Telegraph Hill.
Access to the summit is from the north side, a gated dirt road leaves Bournedale Road, .5 miles west Hwy #6 (further on at 50 yards to the right is Glacier Road).
I parked on the side of the dirt road before the open gate and walked the 300 yards to the top (its driveable).
