Ascent Trip Report

Our Final Four peaks: Parked car at end if Denning Road around 4PM, headed up Phonesia trail... found fisherman's path but we should have waited a bit longer (past the camping sites) to head eastward up the NeverSink. we headed in and made base camp below Lone Mountain. Camped there after hiking 3 hours or so. Slept, woke up, ate and headed up Lone straight up. We stayed west of the stream that runs down the face of Lone which was fine.

Canister found easily on Lone. We checked out a nice view point and headed east. An hour later we were at Rocky and checked on after a bushwack through thick Balasam in the col between Lone and Balsam we found a bit of a trail. Rocky was a quick find. It seems few hike between Rock and Balsam Cap and based on the vegetation we went though we followed none of the, About 3 hours from departing base camp we arrived at Balsam Cap. We enjoyed views just north of the canister and quickly lost the trail to Friday. We negotiated two cliffs and arrived on top of Friday hungry and thirsty. We search for a good hour before we stopped and ate something and took some water. We then hiked began our search again. I followed a trail north past what appeared to be the peaks to a nice view point and found the canister. We then descended the east slide of Friday through some balsam bu t passable. WE steeply descended the last bit to the Neversink and followed that to camp. We were all tired by that point at about 3:30PM. The next morning we strolled out . It was much easier staying on the fisherman's path headed out than in. We tied up with the blue trail and made it to the cars in less than 3 hours.
