Ascent Trip Report

Heading south on rt. 68 from Ranchos de Taos there's a big bend a bit past the trailhead for the trail down to the Rio Grande Gorge. Arroyo Hondo Rd., also called FR. 606, I believe, heads east from the bend. It's very rough. I drove my jeep in for about a mile and a half and then parked. At that point I was about 0.7 mi. north of the peak.The northern and eastern flanks of the mountain looked too steep for a reasonable ascent, so I walked the road for a mile to a clearing SE of the peak. From there the remnants of what was once a forest road head to a spot almost south of the peak (a bit east to true s). From there I slogged up the very steep hillside, about 600 feet of elevation gain in less than half a mile.

Afterwards, I headed a mile and half up the road from the clearing before returning to my vehicle.
