Ascent Trip ReportPB gives 1 Area as the HP whereas the different TRs give 5 Candidate High Point Areas. I chose to go to the 5 Areas, numbering them in accordance with Michael Schwartz's TR. I visited them in the order listed below.
I approached from the Northwest, the village of Cobbleskill, at I88, exit 22 I drove south on Hwy 145 for 9.7 miles (through the village of Middleburgh at 7.7 miles) to a left on Gridley Road, .4 miles right on East Hill Road, 3 miles come to Anderson Road on the right (a right on Anderson takes you to Franklin Benchmark TH), I stayed straight on East Hill Road for another 2.17 miles to a left on CR12, .12 miles right on CR10, .37 miles to Peasley Road on the left ...... for Areas 1 & 2 I turned left on Peasley, for Areas 3, 4 & 5 I stayed straight on CR10.
From corner of CR10/Peasley Road, I drove east on the Peasley (dirt) for 1 mile to a road crossing with a lesser road and parked the van.
I walked left (north) around a locked gate 100+ yards to the Gravel Pit. After checking out the area I chose my spot at a natural area,
GPS 42.54970,-74.19782. I couldn't see Area 1 to the southeast.
AREA 1 (per PB)
From my parking at Area 2 I continued east on Peasley for .52 miles to a right on Boys Camp Road Ext, a kiosk on the corner for "NY Partridge Run Wildlife Management Area". I followed the good dirt road for .47 miles and parked the van, just where the road bends to the left.
A little used grass track heads north to the high ground from this bend. I walked the track north for 60 yards, then turned left/bushwacked west 25 yards to a north/south old stone wall at the summit area. Nothing obvious here, I stomped the area, choosing my spot near the stone wall at GPS 42.54559,-74.19421.
From corner of CR10/Peasley I continued south on CR10 for 1.43 miles to a right on Pond Hill Road, .37 miles parked the van (100 yards past the Communication Tower on the right). On the left (north) is an opening in the woods with evidence of an old overgrown track.
I bushwacked generally right of north in fairly open woods for 150 yards where I picked up a small trail (orange tape blazes) that continues right over the summit area. There is nothing really obvious however 2 spots either side of this small trail appear to be the HP. I chose my spot at a pile of rocks GPS 42.52781,-74.19846.
AREA 4 & 3
From the Area 5 parking I drove east on Pond Hill Road for another .3 miles to a left on Camp Winsoki Road, .56 miles right onto private driveway with mailbox #114, .19 miles to the house on the slopes of the hill.
The very nice/friendly Anna Dickerson has no problems with High Pointers, said she's had a few come to her door.
AREA 4 ...From the house I walked the grass field easterly 200 yards to a height-of-land, then turned left (north) into the woods. I stomped circles, no way for me to identify the small contour, everything looks flat to me. I randomly chose a spot at GPS 42.53391,-74.18881.
AREA 3 .... from Area 4 I walked north east 100-200 yards, open deciduous woods, again flat, difficult to find a HP, needs someone better than I. I randomly chose a spot well-east of an old stone wall, GPS 42.53447,-74.18969.
Only 3 NY CoHPs to go.
