Ascent Trip Report

Started from the rt.42 parking area, crossing the new bridge the ascent was gentle for the first few miles and a few low water crossings, the trail turns left and climbs more steeply. I took the right trail to the top which was pretty steep and a good hike. The view from the top was pretty good, SkyTop in the Gunks can be seen. I took the loop option to return to the car. Just after leaving the top, the trail crosses over some meadow area where the Wittenberg range can be seen clearly and the view is beautiful save for the giant firepit marring the meadow. The trail crosses over another "top" with limited view then descends and crosses back across the mountain returning to the intersection. this trail was narrow at times from growth and I'm sure becomes completely overgrown in summer. this trail also becomes pretty chossy at times and I found my hiking poles indespensible here as I passed a party of 2 going very slowly and carefully without. I made it back to the car in a little over 4.5hrs. The entire trail and loop is marked with red trail markers. Good hike, beautiful day.
