Ascent of Chestnut Ridge on 2012-05-05

Climber: Tom Layton

Date:Saturday, May 5, 2012
Ascent Type:Successful Summit Attained
Peak:Chestnut Ridge
    Elevation:4409 ft / 1343 m

Ascent Trip Report

This is a straightforward hike 1.4 miles on the AT southbound (which actually runs NW here) from Walker Gap. Limited views from the summit. I'm told there are great views three-quarters of a mile further south on the AT, but a storm was gathering and we didn't go that far.

We had already climbed adjacent Garden Mtn from the valley earlier in the day, so we were able to avoid the problematic descent and crossing of Heninger Gap.

My 107th COHP and 29th in Virginia.
