Ascent Trip ReportMont Pécloz, 2197m, P679m
Map: 1:25k: 3432OT
Stats: 1300mH, 9km
Time: 21 Aug 06, ascent 3h, descent 2:15
Start: from W, 5km E of Ecole, car park for Chapelle N-D de Bellevaux.
Route: via Chapel, ruins and Col d’Armenaz, descent via Pecloz W ridge then through forest. (mapped “red” route thru forest not found: flowed “black” mapped route N then SW then W to join “red” route lower down.
Difficulties: minor scrambling on SE ridge of Pecloz, a little exposed near summit. W ridge relentlessly steep hence exposed, tending to be slippery. W ridge probably better in ascent than descent (but care needed finding start of track – leaves access road opposite large layby).
Trig point: not found: apparently one mapped.
Notes: fine mountain: N face as seen from north or from Col d’Armenaz is highly impressive. 3 tops of similar height, close together. Nutcracker (heard), Greyhen; 2 Apollo butterflies below col. A few walkers seen, none on Pecloz.
