Ascent Trip ReportLIDAR analysis reduces the likely candidates from 6 to 2 (see COHP website): one on the woods of the hunting area and the one along the county line east of New Vienna. For the county liner I found a nice gentleman who lives in a farmhouse along route 28 a bit over the line into Highland County and owns the land on the HIghland side of the line. I pulled into his driveway, and explained that I was seeking one of two possible high points for Clinton County. He looked at me like I was touched and pointed out that "you're in Highland County." I explained that I understood that, but that based on topo maps and and my GPS readings I thought the area I sought was about a 250-350 yards across his fields from his house. He took a look at my GPS map and got interested in the problem. He knew where the county line was--it runs diagonally along one of his fence lines--he pointed in that direction, described a knoll that he thought was probably the high spot, (just across his fence line) and welcomed me to go look for it.
I walked across his fields, found the fence, hooped it and walked along the small knoll he described, although there's enough roll to the ground that I wandered quite a bit more.
Back in my car after thanking the farmer I headed to the wooded area off of Levo Rd. just north of New Vienna. I parked along Levo Rd. a bit north of the northeast corner of the area in question, walked a cleared field 0.1 mi. to a fence (an easy hop) and then to a track running into the woods. Once into the woods, I understood why there had been multiple hp candidates here and towards the tower just south. I wandered the area pretty thoroughly (it's not big). Statistics below combine the walks to both Clinton C. areas.
