Ascent Trip Report

It seems that in the year since the last trip reports, the authorities have spent €3m of your finest EU funds (there is a sign to confirm this) turning the track from the radar station to the summit into a wide tarmac road. Quite why this was needed as there is nothing besides the comms station on the summit I don't know, but they've done it and it makes for a very dull road hike. Fortunately, they have arranged some proper trails through the woods on the mountian, including one that leads from the now derelict "Environmental Centre" (at c1390m) to the summit, along the ridge and above the road. This has suffered from serious windfall damage during the winter and was impassable at the top, but it follows a good line and offers some great views to both sides of the island. There was even snow in the hollows on the NE side of the summit, but the views from the top are wonderful (just ignore the ugly comms towers behind you!).
