Peak:Chiricahua Peak

    Elevation:9759 ft / 2974 m

Ascent Trip Report

This was a bit of an ordeal. I approached from what may be the "Upper Mormon Creek" approach. The trail left Sycamore campground, and ascended steeply along Mormon Creek. Some areas were slick with the previous day's snowfall with steep drop-offs, but nothing too bad. At 8100' I completely lost the unmaintained trail, as it entered the burn area. It was steep bushwhacking to the trails traversing the Chiricahua crest at 9100'. This section was miserable as the earth was soft and getting purchase was difficult. After that it was a stroll to the saddle south of the summit and an open country walk to the summit. No views. Descended the same route, abiding by the "devil you know..." adage.
