Ascent Trip ReportAfter a hearty breakfast, four men and a lady set on the John Muir Trail entering the Cathedral Lakes Trailhead on July 3. The first part got us huffing and puffing as the >9000 foot elevation and steep climb exponentially added to the burden of our backpacks. Like hungry marmots we made it to Cathedral Lake and once we refueled in this spectacular setting we were ready to take on the JMT again. In the idyllic setting that is Sunrise Camp, just above a meadow where deer grazed, we set up tents and spent our 1st night in the Yosemite Wilderness. Dipped down into the 30's overnight but this did not dampen our spirits and we took off for Little Yosemite Valley bright and early on July 4. The men made it to the top of Half Dome while Yasmin went ahead to reserve a campsite at Little Yosemite by the Merced River. Day 3 saw us descending into the madness that is Yosemite Valley all the while feeling for the throngs of tourists who had no idea of the beauty that is the Yosemite Wilderness.
