Ascent of Mount Octopus on 2012-04-13
|Date:||Friday, April 13, 2012|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||2440 ft / 743 m|
Ascent Trip ReportRoad to summit - GPS track shows path taken from Hwy 101. Due to snow and downed trees I had to walk farther than under better conditions. In good conditions:
From Hwy 101 at milepost 146 turn west on Hoh Mainline Road H1000, signed for Olympic Corrections Center. Follow it 4.4 miles (just before milepost 4-1/2) and turn right onto H1200 (small sign on north side of junction). From here I could not drive all the way and don't have an exact mileage, so read the map. Follow H1200 about 3.5 miles, +/- a mile, to the junction in the saddle east of the summit.
The summit road is gated to prevent vehicular traffic. But you can walk the road 3/4 mile to the fenced facility on top.
This is WA DNR land, and a Discover Pass is required for the vehicle you are driving.
