Ascent Trip ReportOwen Route. On day one, lunch under the shadow of the Middle Teton. Then Sandy M. developed a pain in her thigh and didn’t reveal it until night at the hut on the saddle and only to me. She didn’t want to say anything to anyone else because she didn’t want to be stopped from going on up. We got up at 3 or 4 am to begin our ascent in the dark so we could reach the summit by 9 am and get off the mountain before rain in the pm. Sandy was really slow and dragging, so I finally told the guide and he stopped her immediately about 500’ from the summit until we could make a quick ascent and back down to her. He made her tea back at the saddle, then as quick as possible we descended and went to a doctor who confirmed the blood clot and recommended a week to 10 days bedrest with foot elevated. We made a hammock out of a tarp and stayed in one place for at least a week.
