Ascent Trip ReportRoute from West End Wash off NPS 92 (aka Southern Route). The drive in with my 2WD truck was difficult and we barely made it. The wash is sandy in places and we got stuck once. We ended up in the incorrect wash, adding about a mile each way to the approach hike. The hiking route, listed as Class 2 by others, had lots of sandy wash and some light to moderate Class 3 climbing, which proved problematic with my left arm in a sling. We got off-route near the summit and added extra distance to the hike. Had I been able to climb, this route would have been passable with some fairly simple light Class 5 climbing, but instead required a long and difficult backtrack. As it was we finished well after nightfall with headlamps and reliant on GPS to find the truck.
