Ascent Trip Report

I followed Dennis Poulin's driving instructions which were pretty close (some mileage numbers varied slightly). For the most part, the route was obvious when looking at the topo map other than:
1. The first left under the train tracks at the private property road closed ahead sign (close to obvious)
2. The road to take to the trailhead is the one that goes southeast into and northeast out of the 4-way intersection at 2575'
-- to be more precise, make a right off the main road at about (36.903,-114.660) heading east-southeast to the 4-way intersection at about (36.894,-114.622) where you make a left and head northeast

Key things to note about the road:
- the initial paved section is worse than much of the dirt section
- the fence that is "usually" locked looks like it hasn't been locked lately
- the road is not too bad, but I would want 4WD and good clearance
- when I do it again, I will stop about a hundred yards earlier before the road crosses the wash - one could drive further, but it's not (to me) fun driving and a bit more distance and gain hiking on this trip is no big deal
- it took us about 2 hours to get from the Cannery in North Las Vegas to the trailhead

As for the hike:
The hike to the ridge was not bad- a bit of brush in places, but nothing bad. As far as route-finding, one just needs to make sure one doesn't leave the main wash too early. Poles are definitely helpful given the loose terrain in the wash and hiking up to the ridge. Once on the ridge, staying at or near the top is relatively easy and didn't get worse than class 2, though there were options for small class 3 moves. The view from the summit is incredible.

Below the ridge, the temperatures can cook, so I wouldn't try this on a hot day.
