Ascent Trip Report

What a beautiful hike! It was really worthwhile. We have been wanting to do this hike for a while, I actually have it on my life list...We were driving down from Northeast Vermont to go to the Celtics game. This hike was much better than going to the TD Garden. This hike would have been worth a 200-mile drive even if we were not going to be in the area!

We started at 1PM up the White Dot Trail. This is certainly the most direct route up. This is one of the steeper trails up a 3100 foot mountain: 1800 feet in 2 miles. The wind was blowing from the north so we were in the shadow of the mountain. This is a windy area so I highly recommend hiking on a day with either no wind or a north wind.

Anyway, the summit rocks are fantastic and the views are incredible. We were very lucky - even for a weekday in April. It was pretty empty at the top, just a couple of other guys with their late lunch. On the way back down on the white dot trail we passed dozens of climbers heading up in only about 1/2 mile. Then we got off of that trail and headed down the red spot trail to the connector and then back around to the white dot near the bottom. We saw no people the whole rest of the hike! So my advice, is on the way down, get off of the white dot trail and make your way through the forest.
