Ascent Trip Report

Don asked me to join him for an ascent of "Red 2". I became immediately intrigued, as I had never heard of any "Red 2" peak previously. In reality, it is just a highpoint location, and not a true peak at all. I initially added it to Peakbagger.com but later deleted it, as it is not considered a true peak by any conventional standard, has no official name, and has no historical value. I did not want to unnecessarily waste valuable Peakbagger.com space.

However, Point 5160+ (as well as nearby "Tusk O'Granite") has a great ascent route, and is a great location for viewing nearby peaks. Point 5160+ is most commonly crossed-over when en route to nearby "Tusk O'Granite"... but we did not seek that peak on this day because of low clouds, possibly whiteout conditions, and concern for daylight hours. Plus, we had struggled plowing up through the fresh powdery 3'-deep of new non-consolidated snow that was on the route. Point 5160+ was the primary goal of the day, and we accomplished that goal.
