Ascent Trip Report

So, after Salmon mountain I took a little break to eat a lunch and get warm. I was wet because it had been raining a little on my way down. Then with all my gear and Web in the car I drove to mont Mégantic's Park. It took about an hour or so and I felt that my legs were a bit crampy. I got there by 14h15 but I only was ready to leave my car and hike the trail by 3pm. First I had to pay the fees to get in park's trail and secondly eat again and put back my hiking clothes. So Web and I started our hike fiercely as daylight is pretty short in that time of the year. I knew that by 5pm it will be very dark, as a storm was coming time was precious. From the parking lot to the top of mont St-Joseph we hike about 3.2km in an hour 15 minutes. The trail was steep but use a lot, so even with the snow storm it was not to bad to hike. At the summit the daylight was about to disappear and no one else was on the trail, only myself and Web were there to challenge the weather and the cold evening that was coming. Before pushing forward to mont Victoria a grab a bite in the little hut build there. There were many noise as the wind were playing some notes between the antenna's metal string attaches. My GPS said summit was around UTM 0334235, 5034798 and the altitude 1068m. After relaxing for 5 minutes we went out of the hut and we were heading toward mont Victoria. My legs were feeling exhausted and pain was starting to be uncomfortable in my right leg but still I had a summit to reach. So 2km and 35 minutes later I was standing by a sign saying summit of mont Victoria. GPS said UTM 0334450, 5036533 and elevation 1063m. At this point it was dark and wind was covering all my tracks to reach back mont St-Joseph and the parking lot. I was tired, my leg didn't wanted to move and I was physically tired. Fortunately, Web was still find to walk all the km back down to car. I found very useful to find the trail even with snow covering all trails or tracks. In 50 minutes I was back in the hut on the summit of mont St-Joseph and eat a little something, then I kept following Web all the way down to the parking lot. With all the snow and the strong wind I wasn't able to see more than 5 to 10 feet in front me, snow whitening me out. The only thing I could see was the two bright eyes of Web waiting for me every 30 to 50 feet. This last portion of hiking took me an hour 20 minutes. I was so glad that I been doing all that hike but my body would remind me for a couple of days how hard I have been pushing myself.
