Ascent Trip ReportLeft Garden lot at 8:30. Trail to JBL was really easy. Heading up Saddleback was rugged with all the Irene blowdown, and definitely got some weird new views. After topping out above the slide trail, we took lunch above the cliffs. Scrambling down the cliffs was not fun and, at times, quite dangerous. If I was solo, probably would have turned around. Up and over Basin was very easy, but my legs gave out at the summit. Coming down and over the Range trail was very difficult for me.
The 6.9 miles out were averaged at 20min miles, if you exclude the break at the warming hut. We stopped for water, but the folks there were mad cool.
I would suggest this only during summer or steady ice pack. We had nothing to grip on to going down the cliffs. Given it was 1/2 winter conditions, and it snowed the night before, we were prepared with gear, but not mentally, to be playing in the snow. Definitely one of the harder 16mi treks I've done, but definitely going back (maybe on different trails/weather)
