Ascent Trip Report

From Pa. 259 S. we turned right on Derry Ridge Rd. (I didn't see a street sign, but there is a street sign for the left turn for Cow Bridge Rd.). We followed Derry Ridge and then Fire Tower Road to a parking spot, near the crest of the ridge, next to a forest track with a locked gate. My GPS put the distance to the hp at 1.11 mi. We combined forest roads and tracks with bush whacks, mostly following a GPS heading. The underbrush and fallen trees were light enough that the bush whack wasn't much more difficult than walking on the tracks. The top, predictably, has microwave towers as well as the old fire tower (locked). Nice views through the trees. A significant peak--both a P1k and a Pa. top 50. The person who submitted this peak to Peakbagger chose to name it after the fire tower, but it's really the high point on Chestnut Ridge, one of several long north south ridges in central Pa.
