Ascent Trip Report

We started off at the Lafayette Campground. We were greeted with a very nasty cold temperature. So we all put on many layers, which was a mistake because as began our ascent we had to strip down a few times before we got to the hut. Andrew was dripping with sweat. I was quite slow, slower than usual. I need to workout! Leo took a few pictures of us on the way to the hut. My hydration pack tube was completely frozen, I couldn't get any water from it. Once we got to the hut, I had a couple of cups of tea. Leo gave me one of his water bottles. I should have drank water when we were at the hut. We used the facilities and then we started our climb to Cannon. When I got out of the bathroom, I yelled at them for not telling I had raccoon eyes. They thought it was funny and laughed.
The day was beautiful, despite being really cold. The sky was a hue of blue that I hadn't seen in a long time and the sun was shining with few clouds in the sky. The climb up Kinsman Ridge Trail was a steep and I was slow. I really sucked wind. I kept trying to drink water. But I only had a liter with me. Once I got to the summit, I had a cramp in my right leg muscle right above my knee and on my thigh. Leo massaged it for me and I drank the rest of my water in my bottle. On our decent we had to slide down on our butts on a few very steep sections. It was fun but cold. We had about 1.2 miles to get to the hut and I got cramps in the same part of my leg but now it was both of them. I fell on the ground because I couldn't even stand up. Leo had me bend my legs and he was massaging them. Andrew gave me a water bottle and I drank half of it. They thought it was funny so they took a couple of pictures of me. Had anyone been able to hear my screams of pain, they would have mistaken them for pleasure. Andrew was laughing and making jokes, that bum. Once I hydrated I felt better and the cramps disappeared. I had an awesome time with these guys.
When we got back to my car, my battery was dead. Someone didn't shut the door completely. We were in the car trying to call AAA and I saw a couple in their car. So I ran and asked them for a jump. It started right up and we were on our way to get something to eat.
